Any college with good biological sciences should be able to provide a strong pre-vet preparation. In this it is similary to preparing for medical school... students needn't major in "pre-med"... they just need to complete the coursework that veterinary programs will look for. The best resource for what Veterinary Colleges will require of their applicants are the colleges themselves; there's lots of good information at the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges website, http://aavmc.org/Students-Applicants-and-Advisors/Pre-Vet-Student-Resources.aspx
ACCREDITED COLLEGES OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
Still, when the query was posted to the NACAC listserv in December of 2007, HS and college folks made the following recommendations:
Bucknell
Colorado State University
Cornell University (http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/students/prevet/index, http://www.vet.cornell.edu/)
Hood College (MD) has a very well respected program. We are a small school with classes averaging 17 students, giving every students an individualized experience. More info at www.hood.edu
Kansas State University
Penn State
Purdue (IN)
Wilson College (Chambersburg PA) has an exceptionally strong Pre-Vet
program. We also have a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medical
Technology (one of the few AVMA accredited 4 yr programs). Since so
many of our students are interested in going to vet school, we have a
special session during our new student orientation for those students.
West Virginia University has a wonderful programs for pre-vet, animal sciences, and animal nutrition as part of our school of agriculture, forestry, and consumer
sciences.
